Can’t make it to the Associated Press Sports Editors Northeast Region meeting Monday at Marist College in New York?

You can still reap the benefits, no matter if you’re in Portland, Maine or Portland, Oregon.

We’ll be webcasting our afternoon professional development sessions nationwide at www.totalwebcasting.com/live/marist so that the only expense for sports journalists, students and academics across the nation will be a little time and some electricity.

And it’s not like this is just a passive sit-back-and-watch deal. The webcast features a way for viewers to submit questions to the panelists, and will be available on-demand following the conclusion of the day’s meetings.

The first webcast, from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. EDT, (10:15 a.m. Pacific) is called “A role for everyone in the new sports journalism landscape,” and panelists include Christopher L. Gasper of Boston.com, Jane McManus of ESPNnewyork.com, Marist journalism student Rich Arleo and Marist associate professor of communications Dr. Lyn Lepre. They will discuss the challenges we all face in modern sports journalism and the strategies that have made them successful.

The second webcast is “Great Writing,” from 3 to 4:30 p.m. EDT (Noon Pacific), featuring investigative and enterprise specialist Bob Hohler of the Boston Globe, blogging and breaking news expert Neil Best of Newsday and Hartford Courant columnist Jeff Jacobs.

The web site is up and running, and includes more details about the sessions and panelists, links to their work and also a place for questions to be submitted. Bookmark it now, and join us on Monday.

There will also be a link on Monday to the webcasts on the front page of apsportseditors.org.
