The Roanoke Times, a seven-day, multimedia publication located in Virginia’s Blue Ridge, seeks a talented, experienced journalist to be our Assistant Sports Editor. We’re the go-to source for news and information on athletics at nearby Virginia Tech. We also boast some of the best prep Sports coverage in the Southeast. The Roanoke Times regularly earns state and national honors. We’re proud of our sports coverage, and we’re looking for the right person who can help us continue to grow as one of the nation’s best Sports departments.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of professional journalism experience, including covering a major college. Responsibilities include: Assisting the Sports editor with scheduling, budgeting and overall departmental oversight; guiding our full-time reporters and stringers; editing stories and covering and writing stories; working with our page designers to produce a quality print section; utilizing social media to drive readers to our print and online products; and helping produce videos and other online content for our award-winning website.

A valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and the ability to cover assignments at night or on weekends is required. College degree preferred.
