My name is Tim Schmitt, and I’m a project manager for GateHouse Media, stationed at the company’s Center for News and Design in Austin, Texas.
GateHouse owns more than 400 publications, including more than 100 dailies.
One of our top sports editors, Tommy Deas of the Tuscaloosa News, is past president of APSE and many of our sports editors are current members, or have been members.
GateHouse publications have had just under 257 million page views in 2017 with 35.423 million unique visitors.
As the sports liaison for the company, I’m currently working on numerous projects with some of our sports editors, including podcasts. I also hold a bi-monthly sports editors call, where we discuss industry-wide best practices.
I should add that as the former Executive Sports Editor of the Niagara Falls Gazette (and three other dailies) for seven years (2005-2011), I have long kicked myself for not previously joining APSE. This is my shot at redemption!
