The Associated Press Sports Editors are sponsoring four $1,000 scholarships for collegiate sports journalists.

Here are the details. 
  
APSE, a national organization of sports editors, is awarding four scholarships to help motivate talented students to pursue a career in sports journalism. Collegiate sports journalists entering their sophomore, junior or senior years in 2025 as well as graduate students are eligible for the scholarships which will be awarded based on the students’ journalistic work, their academic record, and financial need.

Two of the scholarships will go to students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The Garry D. Howard Scholarships are named after the first Black president of APSE. Thanks to a matching donation, APSE can offer the second scholarship.

APSE will also select two students for the Joe Sullivan/Jack Berninger Scholarship and the Roy Hewitt/Tim Wheatley Scholarship, both named in honor of former sports editors and APSE contributors. The winners will be chosen by the APSE scholarship committee and includes editors from all sections of the United States. Deadline is May 25, 2025. 
  
 Please have include the following information in their letter of application: 
  
• Personal: Name, address, age, phone number.  
• Academic: A copy of the student’s collegiate grades. 
• Financial: A brief rundown of the student’s financial situation, with regards to how he/she plans to pay for tuition. 
• Five examples of sports journalism (usually stories but could also be sections the student has edited), using either links or PDFs.
