MassLive is seeking a high school sports reporter and a high school sports creator as it expands to become a truly statewide authority in high school sports.
The high school sports reporter, based in Worcester, will own MassLive’s Central Massachusetts high school sports coverage, becoming the dedicated voice for the leagues, rivalries, schools and athletes that make the region one of the state’s richest high school sports markets.
This is an opportunity to build a beat, working alongside our High School Sports Editor and collaborating with our statewide high school sports team. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your own voice, pursue original story ideas, establish recurring coverage franchises and help shape how MassLive covers high school sports in Central Massachusetts.
Beyond traditional game coverage, you’ll have the opportunity to use MassLive’s digital platforms to tell stories in different ways — from rankings, data and interactive content to short-form video, live coverage and on-camera reporting. The reporter will be responsible for all aspects of coverage, including rankings for teams and players, breaking news, enterprise reporting, feature stories and preview content. You’ll also help shape MassLive’s growing live-streaming coverage, identifying the games and storylines that deserve a statewide audience and contributing to select broadcasts and live coverage.
This position pays between $45,000 and $52,000 annually.
The statewide high school sports creator is a social-first, personality-driven storyteller who can find and tell original stories across Massachusetts, take fans into spaces they have never been and bring the people, programs, rivalries and traditions that define high school sports to audiences across the state. You’ll have the freedom to develop your own voice, formats and recurring franchises while working with an established newsroom and a large statewide audience.
You’ll play a leading role in helping build Massachusetts’ premier statewide high school sports brand and defining how high school sports are covered and experienced across social, video and live platforms.
We are looking for someone who can work alongside our High School Sports Editor and collaborate with our statewide high school sports team and social team. The ideal candidate will be an engaging on-camera presence who understands how to spark conversation, build community and grow a loyal audience, with a particular focus on reaching the next generation of high school sports fans and athletes.
The creator will develop original concepts and take ownership of projects from idea through publication. The role includes reporting and writing across the state, including rankings, all-state teams, lists, polls, breaking news, enterprise reporting and feature stories.
This position pays between $48,000 and $55,000 annually.
