Students from three Midwestern universities and one Minnesota high school were among the 30-plus journalists who attended the Great Lakes Region meeting on April 18 at the Indianapolis Star.
All five of the day’s sessions were streamed live and have been archived on the APSE video site.
The event included five panels (Mobile-First Reporting, Public Records Reporting, Column Reporting/Writing, Data Journalism and a Student Roundtable) as part of a day themed around the importance reporting in today’s sports journalism landscape.
Indianapolis Star managing director Ronnie Ramos, who participated on the Mobile-First Reporting panel, gave a tour of the Star newsroom as part of the event.
Paul Daughtery of the Cincinnati Enquirer and Tim Sullivan of the Louisville Courier-Journal, longtime columnist and consistent annual APSE award winners in multiple categories, participated on the Column Reporting/Writing panel.
The meeting ended with Nick Kelly of Lakeville North (Minn.) High School, Marisa Miller of Butler University, Zach Horrall of Butler University and Michael Hughes of Indiana University leading the Student Roundtable discussion.
