The Reno Gazette-Journal is looking for summer 2013 interns in the following category: sports writing.

The internship is a paid 12-week commitment. However, start/end date is flexible depending on intern's college schedule. Interns will work directly with current RGJ staff members in concept development, story writing and editing and/or multimedia production, as well as other aspects of a newsroom. Interns are expected to work 40-hour weeks with some weekends as a member of our team.

Applicants must be able to receive college credit for the internship, in addition to the stipend for the 12-week internship period. Underclassmen are preferred, but spring 2013 graduates may be considered as merited. Please indicate expected graduation date on résumé. The RGJ will help interns find housing, but interns must be able to provide their own transportation for the summer.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, current résumé and no more than three clips in a Word document or PDF via email to assistant sports editor Johanna Huybers at jhuybers@rgj.com. Writing applicants who submit more than three work samples will be judged only on the first three submitted.

Deadline for applications is Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012. The RGJ will contact finalists for more information and to set up a phone interview by Dec. 12. Applicants who are not contacted by that time will not be contacted further and can consider the process closed. All applications must be submitted by email; no hard copies or phone calls please.
