The Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism at the University of Maryland's Phillip Merrill College of Journalism will host a panel discussion honoring the legendary Washington Post sports journalist this month.
 
Former Washington Post Sports Editor George Solomon will moderate the event, set for Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at Knight Hall's Richard Eaton Auditorium on the University of Maryland campus. There is no charge for admission.

Other guests include Povich's children: TV host Maury Povich; journalist Lynn Povich and attorney David Povich.
 
Shirley Povich's career as a reporter, columnist and Sports Editor at the Washington Post spanned 75 years. His many honors include APSE's Red Smith Award in 1983. Hedied in 1998.
 
Maryland launched the Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism in November 2011, with Solomon directing.
