Paul Campbell, a member of The Riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise's sports staff, died Aug. 1 from injuries suffered in a pedestrian accident in San Bernardino on July 30.

Campbell, 52, was injured at 1:42 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a vehicle that was backing out of a driveway near Inland Center Drive and G Street. Campbell died at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

San Bernardino police are investigating the accident.

The Colton, Calif., resident joined the media company in 1978. He's had many roles within the department over those 32 years, including high school editor, page designer and copy editor.

"Paul always had a way of making us laugh, which was critical at times on tight deadlines," sports editor Dave Ammenheuser said. "He was a terrific editor, a terrific journalist. And he was a great father. He was quite proud of his three children (Bill, John and Cody). He will be greatly missed."

Memorial services will be held in Riverside on Aug. 12.
