Do you work at a small-circulation news organization (less than 15,000 daily print subscribers or under 250,000 unique monthly visitors for stand-alone websites)? Are you interested in going to the APSE Summer Conference in Las Vegas July 9-12?
A $1,000 Donn Walden Leadership Grant would cover your $250 registration fee and four nights at the Flamingo and leave you with at least $250 to help with travel costs and meals.
Donn Walden, most recently the sports editor at the Lewiston Tribune in Idaho, died in April at age 50. Donn took great pride in his involvement in APSE and represented small publications with enthusiasm. Each year APSE will remember Donn by contributing $1,000 in expenses for a sports editor from a small-circulation publication to attend the summer conference.
If you are interested in becoming the first recipient of a Walden grant, please fill out this form by Friday, June 9.
This year’s conference includes panels tailored for editors and reporters at small-circulation organizations; networking receptions; a career development workshop with tips on interviewing, resumes and more; and an opportunity to talk to winners of the APSE contest about their work. Other highlights are a celebration of APSE’s 50th anniversary and Claire Smith at the Red Smith Luncheon.
