Fred Turner, who built the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel into a national power as sports editor, died Monday. He was 67.

Turner was noted for developing some of the top talent in the business, including columnists Mitch Albom and Bill Plaschke and editors such as Brian White, Ray Cox and Craig Stanke.
