The APSE’s annual Southeast Region meeting in Birmingham, Alabama, is set for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11.

The event will take place at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame (2150 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd N, Birmingham, AL 35203). There is a parking deck located behind the facility on 27th Avenue N.

Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey will be on hand for an hour-long, on-the-record Q&A session beginning at 1 p.m.

Programming for the day includes workshops on how to plan for big events and major breaking news stories, as well as a session discussing the promise and perils of working with artificial intelligence.

The APSE Southeast Region includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia

The meeting is open to all sports journalists and student journalists. Admission is free.

Here is the full schedule for the day:
9:30-9:45 a.m. – Arrival and greeting
9:45-11:15 a.m. – Big Event Coverage: How to cover big events, from high school championships to major college and pro sports.
11:15-1 p.m. – Lunch in Uptown (several walkable choices) and time to visit the museum.
1-2 p.m. – On-the-record Q&A with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
2:15-3:45 p.m. – The Promise and Perils of AI in Sports Reporting: How we can best utilize this tool and what’s on the horizon.
4 p.m. – Resume review for students, journalists and aspiring journalists with assembled editors.
