Hello everyone,
Hope all of you had a quiet, enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend with plenty of good food and good times.
As our calendars turn to December, it means we’re that much closer to the 2023 APSE Contest. We’ll be drawing the final print portfolio week soon and sharing the Google folders for editors to turn in their entries by Jan. 15. If you’ve not renewed your membership – or are joining us again for the first time, or the first time in a while – you can get that knocked out at https://apsportseditors.com/join-apse/.
If you need a refresher of the rules, here’s the full one from last year, as well as changes we’ve made for the 2023 contest. A full set of rules and the Google folders will be shared soon.
With the contest also comes an important part of being a member of APSE: Judging the contest.
Judging the best work of our members has been one of my favorite things about being an APSE member. I’ve always come away from this with fresh ideas for my team and appreciate the hard work and new perspectives that our journalists provide to their readers in their hometowns.
There are again two ways to help judge the contest.
The APSE winter conference and in-person judging is set for Feb. 25-29 in Orlando, again at the Doubletree Suites at Disney Springs. For those expecting to attend in person, here’s the link to reserve your hotel room and we look forward to seeing you in Florida for camaraderie, hopefully plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures, and three days of hard work bringing the judging to a close.
For those who can’t make it in person, we always appreciate your help from afar through remote judging. We need scores of editors and reporters to help with this process, which will occur from the last week in January through the end of February. We know some of you have more time than others, but every little bit helps – I promise.
With that in mind, we’d like everyone who will be judging to fill out this quick Google Forms questionnaire. This will help create judging groups that have similar time availability and hopefully let you meet new members that you’ve not had a chance to talk with before.
