Because we know you can’t get enough of a good thing, Year Two of the Associated Press Sports Editors Web contest will be expanded with some exciting changes in store.

The first alteration is that the entries will be split into three categories (up from two in the 2009 contest) based on your total monthly traffic in terms of unique users. That should provide a better measure of how entrants stand against their peers.

The second move is to select two random dates (up from one in ’09) to judge the sites. This will provide a better barometer of the content offerings you provide your users.

Last is that a multimedia category will be added. The multimedia portion of the contest will be judged by a panel selected at our Winter meeting and judging in Indianapolis in February.

To enter please send an email to APSE Executive Director Jack Berninger (jackapse@aol.com) with the following information:

1. Name of newspaper.

2. Total unique users per month

3. Sports editor submitting entry.

Deadline is Oct. 8.

General contest guidelines:

Content (55 percent). Stories, videos, blogs, graphics, other multimedia items.
Design (35 percent). Look, feel, navigation.
Interactive elements (10 percent). Comments, polls, chats.

The contest judging panels will select a top 10 and honorable mentions in each of the three traffic categories and multimedia. Judging dates and judges have been determined by APSE vice presidents Michael Anastasi and Gerry Ahern.

If you have any questions, please contact contest chairman Anastasi at manastasi@sltrib.com or Ahern at gahern@yahoo-inc.com.

More expansion is planned for the 2011 contest. Stay tuned for more information.
