Lyzz Stallings of the York (Pa.) Daily Record is the recipient of the 2026 Donn Walden Leadership Grant to attend the APSE Summer Conference in the Washington, D.C., area.
Stallings began working in the sports department of the Daily Record in 1998 and has held every position from clerk to reporter to copy editor to sports editor. She also is the regional sports director for the USA Today Co. in Ohio and Pennsylvania
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to attend the summer conference through the Donn Walden grant,” Stallings said. “I’m stoked to connect with colleagues, reporters and editors and find inspiration from our shared love of journalism.”
Stallings is the fourth recipient of the grant, which awards $1,000 to a journalist from a small news organization to attend its summer conference in the memory of Donn Walden, the former sports editor of the Lewiston Tribune in Idaho. The grant was established after Walden, a staunch advocate for small newsrooms and their place in APSE, died in 2023 at age 50.
This summer’s conference will be held July 16-18 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va. To register for this year’s event and reserve your space in the conference hotel, click on this link.
