On June 4, 1974, 125 sports editors from around the country descended on the City Squire Hotel in New York for the first meeting of an organization that later that day was named the Associated Press Sports Editors.

From those beginnings in New York, APSE has grown into a force to help its member organizations improve their products by helping to train, polish and challenge their sports editors.

To learn more about the history of APSE, go to our YouTube channel and watch video interviews with our past presidents conducted by Erik Hall over the past 18 months.

To celebrate APSE’s 50th birthday, please consider a gift of $50 (or multiples thereof!) to support the APSE Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2020 to support sports journalism education and diversity. All donations given to the APSE Foundation are tax-deductible and are used in part to underwrite the in-depth course of study that is at the heart of the APSE Diversity in Leadership Fellowship program.
