Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey and Ohio University athletics director Julie Cromer, co-chairs of the NCAA Division I Transformation Committee, will discuss the redefined future of college athletics at the Keynote Luncheon during the APSE Summer Conference on June 16.

Sankey and Cromer will discuss the process of creating a new model for major-college programs at 12:15 p.m. in the University Tower Ballroom on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis. The on-the-record conversation, which will include questions from APSE members, will be moderated by Malcolm Moran, director of the Sports Capital Journalism Program at IUPUI.

The work of the 21-person committee began in January when NCAA members approved a new, simplified constitution that gives each division the authority to determine its rules. The Division I model has undergone a radical shift as a result of external pressure from changes in state and federal laws and a unanimous Supreme Court ruling against the NCAA regarding compensation for athletes for academic-related benefits.

The plan announced in January initially called for the committee to make recommendations to the Division I Board of Directors with changes in its governance model expected by August.
