The Associated Press Sports Editors’ annual Southeast Region meeting will be held Monday, April 29, at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey will highlight the meeting with a one-hour, on-the-record media availability for attendees.
Sports journalists and student journalists from around the region and beyond are invited. There is no cost or registration required.
The meeting will be held at Pete Hanna Center on the Samford Campus, which is located at 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35229.
The meeting will open at 9:45 a.m. with a workshop on Navigating NIL and the Transfer Portal to Cover College Athletics.
Sankey will hold his ask-me-anything session from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
After a break for lunch in the food court on the Samford campus, APSE will hold a reverse panel workshop with student journalists and early-career journalists at the front of the room to relate their experiences, ambitions and hopes and to answer questions from sports editors and reporters about how and where they get their news, what they know (and want to know) about our profession and what opportunities they see to reach younger audiences.
The meeting will end with a resume review for student journalists (as well as others looking for career opportunities).
