Hello everyone!
Hopefully this latest winter storm won’t affect too many people in the coming days and I look forward to seeing everyone in Orlando on the weekend (where it might not even get to 80 degrees, which would be pretty rare for us).
First off, thanks to the army of remote judges who have already started on the 2024 Contest. Paul is saying great things about how everything has started, and I appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm on jumping in.
Now, a couple of quick notes to all before we head out.
Red Smith Award
Voting has begun. If you are an eligible voter and did not receive a ballot, please reach out to Matt Pepin, or read this post on the website for details.
Orlando business for all members
Even if you can’t be at the winter conference and judging, there are still a handful of things on the agenda that affect everyone. These items will be brought up in new business either Sunday or Thursday. The opening meeting minutes will be posted Sunday evening after we adjourn as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions or want to have your voice heard in Orlando. Send me an email at apsepresident@gmail.com.
Viva … : We’ll be discussing a potential move of judging from the East Coast to a drier locale where neon is quite the thing for 2026. Incoming conference coordinator John Bednarowski will have details. Please reach out to me or John with questions.
Committees and volunteers: I mentioned this in my previous president’s note from a few weeks ago, but we’ll be talking about committee structure and the reintroduction of “signing up” to be on a committee moving forward.
Second VP Nominations: Will be taken at the closing meeting on Thursday morning. Outgoing region chairs John Devine (Southeast) and Jason Hoffman (Midwest) can move into a candidate position if they choose. We can have 4 candidates on the ballot. Please reach out to me with any questions around the nomination process or if you have someone in mind.
That’s it. Stay warm and safe.
