10:20 a.m.-11:45 a.m.: Sporting News editor Jeff D’Alessio and managing editor Paul Kasko will discuss the challenges and opportunities behind the launch of the nation’s first digital daily sports newspaper. 12:35-1:35 p.m.: Effective blogging with Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and John Clay of the Lexington Herald-Leader.

1:40-2:40 p.m.: How do you convert a sports department from newspaper-first to digital-now? How do you sell reporters that blogging isn’t evil? That Facebook isn’t the end of civilization? And how do you manage a department in a world where 24/7 seems to be the norm? When the managing editor tells you the paper wants to be online first, here’s how to make the sports department the leader instead of the follower. Led by Alan Schmadtke, deputy online editor of the Orlando Sentinel.

2:45-3:45 p.m.: Todd Wethall of the Lexington Herald-Leader on building KentuckySports.com. What the Lexington Herald-Leader did to create a site that has become a must-go-to site for fans of University of Kentucky athletics, especially football and basketball.

3:50-4:55 p.m.: High school prep stats for the Web with Brad Gaskins of the Knoxville News Sentinel and prepxtra.com. How to monetize preps even if you are a small newspaper with Jon Johnson of the Dothan Eagle.
