APSE Northeast Regional Chair

The APSE Northeast Regional will be held at the City University of New York Graduate School for Journalism on Monday, Nov. 11.

The CUNY graduate center is located at 219 W 40th St in Manhattan.

Because of the location, we are inviting the Mid-Atlantic region to join in as well. There is no fee to attend.

Hotel rooms: A small number of rooms will be reserved for those who might need. If you think this might be something you would want to do, send me a note. Figure something in the neighborhood of $199.

Rangers game: There is a game the night before the meeting. We will try to get our hands on some tickets for purchase. Please let me know if this interests you. They’re playing the Panthers.

A robust agenda is in the works. Some of the early highlights:

Covering the Boston Marathon bombing: Boston.com's Steve Silva was at the finish line when the bombs went off and took the video footage seen around the world. He and Boston.com sports editor Matt Pepin will explain how coverage developed from there on Boston.com, BostonGlobe.com and the Boston Globe.

Dealing with the blowback of a damaging story: BJ Schecter, executive editor for Sports Illustrated/SI.com and an adjunct professor at CUNY, and Selena Roberts discuss how to handle the heat that comes with the big story.

More information as it forms. If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions, don’t hesitate to email Hank.Winnicki@newsday.com or call 631-843-4832. Look forward to seeing many of you in November.
