The seventh-annual APSE Day of the Diversity is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications building in Hampton, Va.

We will meet at 10 a.m., break for lunch, and finish at 4 p.m.

 Here’s the tentative lineup:

10 a.m. – Opening remarks to students and introductions of guest from News Sentinel sports editor and former APSE president Phil Kaplan. Welcome from Hampton University.

10:30 a.m. – South Florida Sun Sentinel sports editor Greg Lee of SJI will lead a panel discussion with three Hampton students on issues today facing college students entering the workforce in fields related to journalism. Hampton students in the audience can ask questions throughout the session.

11:30-11:45 – Break for lunch with students. 

1-2 p.m. – Carrie Cousins, general manager of educational media company at Virginia Tech, will lead session with selected members of APSE’s student chapter at Virginia Tech. 

2:15-4 p.m. –  Job fair and resume critiques for students.     

 The cost of this year’s lunch and other expenses has been covered with the financial support from The Daily Press, Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Virginian-Pilot and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

If you need hotel accomodations, we will again be staying at the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina. The hotel is an easy walk to campus. When making reservations, ask for the APSE block of rooms.

The Scripps Howard Foundation will offer internships to two Hampton students interested in a career in journalism. The two students chosen each receive a $3,000 stipend and a $500 scholarship for the summer of 2015. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has agreed to host one of the students.
