Furman Bisher, the legendary Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist, has won many honors over the years, including the Associated Press Sports Editors' Red Smith Award in 1988.

Bisher, 91, again finds himself in the winner's circle, this time as the namesake for a throughbred race horse, a chestnut yearling, "Furman Bisher."

Cot Campbell, president of Dogwood Stable in Aiken, S.C., bestowed the honor on his old buddy Bisher.

"I've got such an odd name. Who the hell would want to put that name on a horse?" Bisher wondered.
