Brad Elliott Schlossman of the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Beat Writing for the 30,000 and under circulation category. The Columbia (Mo.) Missourian duo of Jacob Bogage and Mark Selig took first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in the breaking news category in the Under-30,000 circulation category for their story about UM football players boycotting in support of a student protest against UM System President Tim Wolfe.

Sun Journal team, Ryan Holmgren tie for first in Under 30K Projects

Ryan Holmgren of the Casper (Wyo.) Star-Tribune and the team of Kalle Oakes, Justin Pelletier, Fred Gage, Lauren Schneiderman, Carl Natale, Russ Dillingham and C. Ernie Anderson of the Sun Journal (Lewiston, Maine) tied for first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in the projects category in the Under-30,000 circulation category. The Sun Journal’s project looked back at the controversial 1965 heavyweight championship fight between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston in Lewiston. Holmgren’s project examined the challenges of the University of Wyoming and other schools in the Mountain West.

Lafayette Journal & Courier’s Sam King wins Under 30K Game Story

Sam King of the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal & Courier won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Game Story writing for the Under 30,000 circulation category. King won the division for his recap on a local high school girls basketball team winning semistate just days after the death of its coach.

Matt L. Stephens and Eric Larsen of the Fort Collins Coloradoan took first place at the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in the Multimedia category in the Under 30,000 circulation. The pair’s 360-degree video puts viewers in the seat on the USA Pro Challenge Northern Colorado stage.
