Ten organizations earned Triple Crown honors, with top 10 recognition in three of the four section/website categories. The APSE contest, voted on by sports editors and writers from across the nation, honored the best work in 2020.
The Los Angeles Times, The Seattle Times, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Spokesman-Review earned Grand Slam honors in the annual Associated Press Sports Editors’ contest, which was held remotely because of the pandemic. APSE’s winter conference had been scheduled for Orlando, Fla. in February.
Los Angeles and Seattle competed in Division A, which included the nation’s largest publications (94,000 and over in daily circulation, or 2 million unique monthly web visitors), while Las Vegas competed in Division B and the Spokesman-Review competed in Division C.

Division A: Star Tribune (Minneapolis); The Washington Post; The Advocate/Times-Picayune (Baton Rouge/New Orleans, La.).
Division B: Indianapolis Star; The Oklahoman; The Buffalo News; The Tennessean (Nashville); Omaha World-Herald.
Division C: The News-Gazette (Champaign, Ill.); The Times-Tribune (Scranton, Pa.).
The Los Angeles Times (Division A) and the Indianapolis Star (Division B) each earned 10 Top 10 awards to set the pace in their divisions in the writing, video, and photo contest. The State (Columbia, S.C.) led Division C with nine, and The Mercury (Manhattan, Kan.) led Division D with eight.
Winners will receive their awards at the APSE summer conference in Las Vegas (Aug. 15-18).
