The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Western Pennsylvania’s largest newspaper, is currently seeking applicants for a designer position on our award-winning sports desk.  We’re looking for a versatile designer/editor to elevate our coverage on multiple platforms. The Post-Gazette provides unparalleled reporting and commentary on Pittsburgh’s storied pro and college teams, plus expansive high school coverage.

If you have a winning attitude and are highly motivated, the Post-Gazette has an exciting opening for a key player in one of America’s most passionate pro and college sports cities. The Post-Gazette is perennially rated among the best sports reports in the country by the Associated Press Sports Editors. Our offices are conveniently located between Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park, and our coverage base includes three college teams (Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia) in college’s elite Power Five conferences. We are looking for a designer to lead us into an exciting next phase of our transformation.

The applicant should have design skills to create section fronts and inside pages that are elegant, active and interesting. The ability to work on deadline is a key. The designer must be able to recognize and advocate for excellent photography, generate ideas for alternate story forms and collaborate with writers and editors in the planning and presentation process.

The applicant is a person with good visual skills who can bring life to our news pages and digital formats. Theability to edit copy and write vibrant headlines for both print and digital platforms is preferred.

The selected candidate will work closely with an award-winning sports designer, honing their craft with the potential to advance with the company and lead the sports design team.

Education and Experience

●     Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or graphics design but not a must

●     2 to 5 years of page design experience (negotiable on review)

●     Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills

●     Strong analytical and strategic planning skills and attention to detail

●     Exceptional work ethic, time management, and organization skills
