Gene Warnick, sports editor of the Los Angeles Daily News, was elected vice chair of APSE's West Region. He takes office at the concluding executive committee meeting of the Boston conference in June when Mark Faller of the Arizona Republic becomes region chair.

Warnick, who has been at the Daily News since 2005 and its sports editor since 2007, previously served as APSE's third vice president.

He was sports editor in Yakima, Wash., from 1998-2001 and Watertown, N.Y., from 1996-1997. He also worked at newspapers in Elyria, Ohio; Everett, Wash.; Bellingham, Wash.; Wenatchee, Wash.; and Fresno, Calif.

He was a music performance major at the Oberlin Conservatory before turning to journalism.

Faller is replacing Lauren Gustus of the Reno Gazette-Journal, who is completing her two-year term.

As a region chair whose term is expiring, Gustus will be put forth as an automatic nominee for APSE 2nd vice president in next spring's election.
