The Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a senior scholar, visionary leader, and outstanding manager to serve as the Founding Director of the new Center for Sports and Media and be appointed at the rank of tenured full Professor (with possible endowment support), beginning Fall 2017. The Center will involve the integration of several existing programs and people into the new Center — including the Texas Program in Sports and Media (see http://moody.utexas.edu/tpsm) and the Certificate Program in Sports Media (see https://advertising.utexas.edu/undergraduate/certificate-sports-media — to help establish Moody College as one of the leading programs in research, teaching, and strategic partnerships related to sports, athletics, media, and communication.
Applicants for this position should have: (1) prior management or administrative experience in academia, (2) a firm commitment to collaborative and participatory leadership, (3) an innovative and inclusive vision for the center, and (4) experience and expertise in one or more areas of scholarship related to sports and media/communication. Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent). Ideal applicants should also have (1) an established record of conducting nationally-recognized scholarship, (2) a record of successful fundraising and/or managing funded research, (3) a commitment to classroom teaching, (4) a record of mentoring students, (5) experience working with sports-related organizations and/or media at the amateur, collegiate, and/or professional level.
