Tom Patterson, who served stints as sports editor of the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion Ledger, Denver Post and Chicago Tribune and assistant managing editor of The National sports daily and Florida Times Union, died Wednesday after a long battle with a rare lung disease. He was 62.
