Todd M. Adams, sports editor of  U-T San Diego, has been elected second vice president of the Associated Press Sports Editors.

He defeated Don Shelton of The Seattle Times and Hank Winnicki of Newsday.

Adams will assume office at the closing meeting executive committee meeting of the San Diego conference in June. San Diego, coincidentally, is the host for the conference.

Previously, Adams worked as sports editor at several small papers in Illinois, including the Mt. Vernon Register-News and the Aurora Beacon-News, before becoming SE at the Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer. From there, he was hired as assistant sports editor/colleges for the combined staff of the Orlando Sentinel and South Florida Sun Sentinel. He’s been at U-T San Diego for almost three years.
