Here at the McClatchy Publishing Center–Charlotte, our sports desk handles copyediting and design for three daily newspapers: the Charlotte Observer, the Raleigh News & Observer and the Rock Hill Herald. We have a dedicated and skilled crew, and an opening for someone who has strong sports copyediting experience. Some level of layout skill would be a plus, but is not a requirement. We have professional sports teams for the NFL, NHL and NBA. We have top-flight college teams, and March Madness means something here. While the publishing center’s primary focus is print right now, the near future includes digital publishing. We are looking for someone who loves the heat of a sports desk, who can power up a headline, who thrives on precision and who can sweep a running game story into the paper with just enough time to spare. Various experience levels will be considered, but this is not a job for the inexperienced. This is a full-time job with benefits. A bachelor’s degree is required, and working nights and weekends is part of the job. With us, your work will be delivered to hundreds of thousands of subscribers every day.
