I want to invite everyone to our 2017 APSE Southeast Region meeting in Birmingham, Alabama, on April 24. UAB is kind enough to host us for the second straight year. When I have more details on panel rooms/parking I will send it along.
The biggest highlight of the meeting is once again SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey will be joining us for an hour-long, on-the-record Q&A. The Commissioner is always welcoming so if there are burning questions that can’t wait to be asked, I highly encourage you to attend.
The rest of the agenda is still being finalized, but I’m planning on beginning the day at 9 a.m. with the first session (check in/breakfast starting around 8:30 a.m.) and wrapping up around 3-4. There is no charge to attend and I’m still finalizing lunch (last year was provided by UAB).
If there is a panel you would be interested in hearing, I am taking suggestions. I have ideas, and one I’m really excited about that will interest both writers and editors (that’s what I call a teaser), but I want as many people to get as much as they can out of this day as possible. Students are also welcome and there will be a resume critique at the end of the day for students by sports editors from around the region. So if you have any ideas, feel free to reach out to me.
If you are planning on attending, please let me know as soon as you can. The rooms at UAB hold a decent amount, but I know this meeting has been well attended in the past, and from my email list, it looks as if there are many new members this year. If you could shoot me an email to let me know you/how many are coming, it would be appreciated. Also, if you’re coming in the night before since we are starting early, and are interested in doing an informal dinner, I can set that up. I’ll also send an email here in the next week with some hotel options if anyone would be interested.
I think that’s all for now. If you ever need anything regarding APSE, please feel free to reach out to myself or Joe Schiefelbein (our region vice chair) at jschiefelbein@theadvocate.com. And if you’re interested in attending the summer conference in New Orleans, also reach out to Joe. He has all the info on that. Also, it’s New Orleans. So right there should make you want to attend.
Thanks all! Hope to see you in Birmingham!
