The Sports Journalism Institute is accepting applications for students for its Class of 2011 and host papers and Web sites for the students.
The class will be in residence for "boot camp" training at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg May 27-June 5, and students will report for their internships immediately afterward. The internships are generally expected to run seven weeks, though in most cases students may arrive earlier or stay later depending on your needs, and the student's return-to-school schedule.
SJI does not establish salaries for the interns; you are asked to pay whatever is the usual intern pay or entry-level salary at your shop. We also ask you help your intern find housing if he or she is not local.
SJI was established in 1992 with the mission of adding to the number of women and minorities in the sports media. This will be its 19th class of students. SJI began as a joint venture of APSE and NABJ, today is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) supported by APSE, Tribune Foundation, ESPN/Disney, private donations and others.
