If you are planning on covering the Rio 2016 Games, you should have received, or will shortly receive, an email outlining how to register for the Press Operations Briefing in Rio de Janiero.

The briefing is Oct. 5-8. Registration opened on May 18, and the deadline to register is Aug. 21.

There is no official hotel for the event, but the email suggests several choices for accommodations.

One item you will need to secure is a work visa. This is in addition to a valid passport, which must be valid for at least six months.

The United States is one of the nations on their list of needing a visa. Rio Press Operations strongly recommends you fill in the registration form for a visa. It can be found as an attachment to the email on registration.

But this is just the first step. There are more steps needed and then they need to approve your application. This is the condensed version of their email.

If you did not receive the email from Rio Press Ops, contact me at: jmicco@post-gazette.com, and I’ll forward it to you. Give it a day or so, and check your spam filters first.

Any questions, as always, please contact me or Peggy Manter at the USOC office.
