New vice chairs have been appointed in four regions by APSE president Gerry Ahern.

• Atlantic Coast: Andi Petrini, sports editor of the Daily Press in Newport News, Va. She replaces Colleen McDaniel, formerly the sports editor of the Virginian Pilot in Hampton Roads, Va., who is now the managing editor of CruiseCritic.com.

• Great Lakes: Jon Styf, sports editor of the Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake, Ill. He replaces Eric Olson, the former sports editor of the Northwest Herald who is now the editor of the Daily Chronicle in DeKalb, Ill.

• Southwest: Nick Mathews, sports editor of the Houston Chronicle. He replaces Styf, who was the sports editor of the Beamount (Texas) Enterprise before his move to Illionis.

• Great Plains: Michael Peters, sports editor of the Tulsa World. He replaces Kevin Winters Morris, formerly sports editor of the Southeast Missourian in Cape Girardeau who is now an assistant sports editor with the Salt Lake Tribune.

Vice chairs assist region chairs in their duties in organizing regional meetings, providing moves and notes for the APSE website and handling outreach efforts. Vice chair become region chairs at the end of the region chair’s term.

PETRINI was named sports editor of the Daily Press in the summer of 2011 after doing virtually everything in the Daily Press sports department. She arrived in March 2005 as a copy editor and designer and picked up web producer duties along the way. Before working at the Daily Press, she was the community editor at the Independent Tribune in Concord, N.C., where was a features department of one and oversaw the internship program. While there, she secured an ASNE grant for a local high school’s newspaper program. She is a 2003 graduate of Elon University in North Carolina and is originally from Vineland, N.J.

STYF was named the sports editor of the Northwest Herald in August. He previously was an assistant managing editor and sports editor of the Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise. He had been the sports editor of the Daily Chronicle in DeKabl, Ill., but left in June 2010 for a reporting job at the Green Bay Press-Gazette. He then went to Texas, where he became the sports editor in Beaumont in September 2010. A Michigan State graduate, he also previously held sports reporting posts at the Sarasota (Fla.) Herald Tribune and Citrus County Chronicle in Florida.

MATHEWS was named sports editor of the Houston Chronicle in June after having served as the online sports editor since February 2011. He previously was the sports editor of the Daily Press in Newport News, Va., where he had held that title since January 2008. A University of Missouri graduate, Mathews also had stops in Decatur, Ill.; Fremont, Ohio; and Athens, Ga.

PETERS was named sports editor of the Tulsa World in June 2011 after more than three years as high school sports editor at the Houston Chronicle. His role at the Chronicle had expanded over the years to include five months as interim online sports editor in 2009 and seven months as interim No. 2 editor in 2010. He also directed the paper’s 2011 Final Four coverage. Peters, a Texas A&M graduate, was a sports writer at the Bryan-College Station Eagle and Beaumont Enterprise before becoming sports editor of the Galveston County Daily News in January 2000. He returned to the Beaumont Enterprise in July 2003, and he led the paper to five APSE top-10 writing honors before heading to the Chronicle at the start of 2008.
