After a vote by the executive committee as outlined in organization bylaws, APSE is pleased to announce the following websites are immediately eligible to for membership:

http://www.247Sports.com
http://www.BamaOnline.com
http://www.MaxPreps.com
http://www.southcarolina.rivals.com
http://www.missourisportsredux.com

Those five new members are eligible to compete in the contest as full members as soon as dues are received.

Additionally, two wire services are eligible to join as associate (non-voting) members:

hppt://www.xmlteam.com

On behalf of the officers and executive committee, it is my pleasure to welcome these new members into our organization pending receipt of dues. We look forward to their participation. The opportunities to network, share ideas and collaborate with peers across the country are plentiful at both the regional and national level. Whether it is participating in workshops, attending conventions or leaning on the expertise in our organization to protect journalistic access or tackle other issues, we look forward to bringing their voices into the fold.

This is also a good time to remind past members or prospective new members that it is not too late to join and compete in the 2013 writing contest. Dues can be paid here.

The deadline to enter is Feb. 13. Judging will take place at our Winter Conference in Indianapolis on March 1-5. You can find details about the contest here:

If you have questions about the contest, please feel free to reach out to me or First Vice President Mike Sherman of The Oklahoman, the contest chair for 2014.

Let's make one last push to get new members into the organization for 2014. Newspapers who meet the criteria outlined in our bylaws would not requre a vote of the executive committee. Websites would require a vote. I call upon region chairs and vice chairs to take stock of your area; if there is a publication or website who could benefit from APSE membership, please reach out to them. Even if they do not join in time for this year's contest, opening that communication is important to our organization's future.

I hope to see you in Indianapolis next month.
