The Oregonian in Portland is looking for an Oregon Ducks beat reporter. Here are the details about the position:

Location: Strong preference is to have this reporter live in Eugene, a college town of 150,000 about two hours south of Portland.
Pay: Commensurate with experience.
Job description: The Oregonian is hiring a lead beat reporter to cover one of college football’s most interesting teams and its athletic department. Our strong preference is to have this reporter live in Eugene. We want someone with the competitive drive to help us remain the leading source of Oregon Ducks news, serving readers digitally focused updates and regular enterprise-driven must-reads. A self-starter who will expand on our tradition of telling readers not only what happens on and off the field, but why it’s happening and most importantly what it means. Priorities are to break news and set the agenda on the beat while being mindful of the national context as this program tries to maintain a spot at the table among college sports’ bluebloods. It’s a fascinating perch from which to chronicle the evolution of college sports across every platform at our disposal, from Twitter to blogs to video to print. Focused on football and the athletic department year-round, this reporter will have the support of a second Ducks reporter who assists on football and covers basketball and baseball. In the football offseason, the lead reporter also will help cover Oregon’s minor sports. Preferred candidates will have at least three to five years of experience covering a primary beat at a sports-focused dotcom or major metro newspaper. We plan to fill this position by the start of fall camp in early August. Send a one-page resume with references, cover letter and five clips or links to an online portfolio of work to sports editor Seth Prince at sprince@oregonian.com by June 17. Please put “Oregon Ducks reporter” in the subject line.
