Newsday.com is looking for an experienced Web producer to help us grow the Sports sections of our website in the competitive New York metro-area market. This position requires a high degree of knowledge of NY-area pro sports, significant Web and newsroom experience, strong news judgment, an interest in mobile news and organizational skills. The position requires working on Saturday or Sunday evening. Responsibilities include: running the Sports sections of newsday.com on all platforms, including breaking news and other programming. Making photo galleries, writing articles, shooting videos, building quizzes and creating other multimedia content. Working with editors, reporters, developers and designers to report and build special projects, like those at newsday.com/sports/data. Using metrics to inform day-to-day programming decisions and help improve projects. Assigning and overseeing the work of interns.

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of newsroom Web producing experience. Currently running a sports website or sports section front. Worked with a Web publishing content management system. Creative and open to new ideas, and plugged into other sports websites. Familiar with Long Island and the local sports scene. Fast, accurate and flexible. Well-organized and patient, with project management skills and experience with compelling interactives. Committed to a high standard of journalism with a keen attention to detail. Adept at juggling tasks and calm under pressure in breaking news and deadline situations. Knowledgeable about the role social media and mobile applications play in expanding a website’s reach, and comfortable with technology. Basic HTML and photo editing skills. Reliable transportation to and from Newsday’s suburban Melville office.
