Eric Smith is an award-winning freelance sports reporter based in Phoenix, Arizona. He is looking for an opportunity to join a top-notch and energetic sports staff as a reporter or beat writer.

Eric spent three-plus years at the Antelope Valley Press in Southern California where he won multiple state and national awards, primarily for feature writing. During his time at the AV Press, Eric spent two seasons as the beat writer for the Lancaster JetHawks, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros. Eric provided relentless coverage of top prospects such as Carlos Correa and Mark Appel while breaking news and keeping fans informed on a daily basis through social media.

While at the AV Press, Eric also covered multiple Stanley Cup playoff games, the 2013 Rose Bowl and the 2011 MLB All-Star Game. Eric has extensive experience covering high school and junior college athletics.

A 2010 graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, Eric interned for four semesters at the Arizona Republic and also wrote for The State Press, ASU’s student newspaper. His time as a Sun Devil was capped off when he was a 2010 scholarship recipient of the Jim Murray Memorial Foundation.
