Some friendly reminders about the APSE Conference in Detroit June 26-29:

Passports

Don't forget them if you plan to go to Canada

Baseball tickets pickup

Tickets for the picnic and baseball game can be picked up at the APSE registration desk in the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center — Level 5. The picnic will start at 5:30 and last until game time. Beer will be served until 7. No charge for the picnic or game. The picnic will be in Party Plaza A at Comerica Park. Gate C offers the best access, but any gate can be used. (The registration desk will be staffed until 7:30; it opens at 11 a.m.).

Transportation to and from the park

A People Mover stop is located in the Renaissance Center. Cost is 75 cents each way, but free coins will be available at the APSE registration desk in the Marriott — Level 5. (The registration desk will be staffed until 7:30).

Guest room Internet

APSE will pay for your Internet access in your room. When you access the Internet, you will be asked if you will accept the charges. Say yes. Those charges will be channeled to APSE's master account. The charges are per day and will be charged only if you accept the charges each day.

Family/Friends orientation

Jeannette Pierce will be on hand on Thursday morning at 9 (LaSalle B-Level 5) to speak to the spouses/families about see and do Detroit. She’ll have maps and suggestions for activities as well as restaurants.

Thursday Newsmaker lunch

Mark Hollis, athletic director at Michigan State University, will be the speaker at Thursday's lunch.

On-site parking

For those driving in, discounted parking will be available in the Beaubien Garage adjacent to the rear of the hotel. A covered walkway leads to a hotel entrance. Take a parking ticket when entering the parking garage. When you leave, insert the parking ticket and insert a discounted parking ticket you will be given, and the discount will show up. One discount ticket is needed every time you leave. If you stay in the structure for more than one day, say five days and never move your car, you will need only one discount ticket, which will discount the cost for all days

Transportation to and from airport

Unfortunately, there are no shuttles from the airport to downtown. Cabs only. The prices listed below are per cab, so meet some new friends and share a cab to town.

Research courtesy of Gene Myers wife, Beth: Unlike most other airports, you won’t find a long line of cabs waiting curbside at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. There isn’t a shuttle service or a train into the downtown area, and there is only one company that is permitted to wait curbside at the airport. Taxis can be difficult to find, especially if the weather is bad. So unless you plan on walking, and we’re sure you don’t, we strongly suggest you make advance reservations for transportation to the Marriott.

Below you will find a short list of companies that provide transportation services. And don’t forget about your return trip. Most companies provide a discount if you book round-trip at the same time. (and if you’re bringing the family, ask about car seats – they’re readily available at all these companies!)
