Paul Vigna, sports editor of the Harrisburg (Pa.) Patriot-News, has been elected vice chair of the Mid-Atlantic Region.

It’s Vigna’s second stint in an APSE leadership position. He served as chair of the same region in 1996-1997 while sports editor of the York Daily Record.

Vigna’s election follows the departure from the region of former chair Judy Connolly, who left Scranton for a new position in Middleton, N.Y. Josh Barnett of the Philadelphia Daily News is the Mid-Atlantic’s new chair.

Vigna has been sports editor in Harrisburgh for a year. He started with several papers in suburban Philadelphia, spent three years as a sports copy editor with the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal, and then five years as sports editor in York. He was sports enterprise editor for 10 years at the Philadelphia Daily News.

An adjuct professor at Temple University and Lebanon Valley College, Vigna was active with the Daily News Urban Journalism Workshop for eight years, the last two as co-director.
