Bill Brill, who led the sports department at the Roanoke Times for 30 years, died Sunday at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. He was 79.
Brill lost his battle with cancer of the esophagus.
He was known for his zest for life and his deep knowledge and insight into college basketball. He wrote his final column for the Times in 1993.
