Oklahoma State University seeks to start an APSE student chapter. An e-mail vote is being conducted by the executive committee. As required by bylaws, this notice is being published on the APSE website. The Executive Committee consists of the president, three vice presidents, regional chairs, The Associated Press representative and past presidents of APSE. Voting will be conducted via email and concludes Nov. 2.

Here is President Mike Sherman’s note to the committee.

 I  request a vote of the executive committee and recommend approval of  student chapter membership for Oklahoma State University.

OSU’s application includes:

a cover letter on university letterhead that covered all topics required for membership application, including officer names and bios, status at OSU, future plans, fundraising, guest speakers, goals, etc.

a roster of prospective members who signed up to potentially join this club;

a club constitution that was formally approved by the OSU SGA;

— proof that it submitted all materials to be considered a recognized student organization at OSU;

— resume for chapter president Kieran Steckley;

— resume for chapter adviser Ted Kian

Further, the APSE advisers for this group are myself and Great Plains Region chair Michael Peters of the Tulsa World. This is a sports journalism program that has produced excellent reporters, editors, designers for The Oklahoman, The World and many APSE member organizations regionally and nationally.

I believe OSU meets all criteria for student chapter membership

Maryland, Virginia Tech and Ohio University have previously been approved for student chapters.
