Opelika-Auburn News sports editor Dana Sulonen has been elected the Southeast Region Vice Chair.
Sulonen joined the Southeast Region in October 2014 when she was hired at the Opelika-Auburn News as sports editor, taking over for long-time editor and former Southeast Region Chair Mike Svetitz. Prior to moving to SEC Country, Sulonen was the sports editor at the Tribune Chronicle in Warren, Ohio.
Sulonen was an APSE Diversity Fellow in 2014, is a member of AWSM and a member of the Alabama Sports Writers Association. She’s also an adjunct professor of journalism at Auburn University.
“During the 2014 convention in Arlington, Mike Szvetitz told me that I needed to join the mighty Southeast Region. Never did I ever imagine that meant being his successor and now serving APSE as vice chair of the region. I look forward to working with region chair Chris White and all of the sports editors to not only grow our region, but to grow the organization.”
