The Wisconsin State Journal is seeking a versatile copy editor for its news and sports copy desk. Candidates must be able to sharply edit stories, write engaging headlines, compile national and local roundups for both sports and news, write roundups of prep and college sports events, and strive to keep our Web sites fresh with the latest news. Candidates should be proficient in InCopy and share a strong desire to produce "the perfect paper" every single night. At least three to five years experience at a daily newspaper is preferred – unless you’re a superstar we can’t pass up. If you’re ready to join a veteran team of editors, reporters, photographers and Web producers, we want to hear from you.

To succeed in the position, applicants need to have basic knowledge of libel and AP Style as well as deep and broad knowledge of spelling and grammar, and be able to work under deadline pressure. Typical hours of work are between the hours of 4:30 p.m. – midnight. The days of the week worked will vary. Those with a proven ability to work in both news and sports will receive strong consideration, as we’re hiring with an eye on filling some sports’ needs.

To be considered for the position applicants must apply online at www.jobs.capitalnewspapers.com.
NOTE: Applicants who do not complete the online application portion will not be considered for the position.

Additionally, please send 5-10 editing, headline and roundup/compilation/writing clips to Jason Adrians, Night Editor, at jadrians@madison.com.
