Dear APSE members,

In interpreting the contest rules regarding stories not being entered in multiple categories, I added as contest chairman this standard (in bold) to the project reporting category:

Project reporting
Collection of articles that sheds new light on personalities and issues in the news, including trends and original ideas. For judging purposes, the project is limited to 10 stories. Additional material may be attached and read at the judges’ discretion. There should be a synopsis of the supplementary material in the cover letter. The material is not required to have appeared in a single day or on consecutive days. NOTE: Stories entered as a special section entry may not also be entered as a project writing entry. However, stories that appeared in a special section not entered as a section may be entered in this category.

After further evaluating the category, I am removing this stipulation and returning the criteria for this category to the standard of the 2011 contest. We can revisit it in Orlando during the opening session if members feel strongly that the change should be included for 2013.

So to clarify: You may enter as a project content that was published in a special section.

If you have already mailed your projects or special section entries and wish to make a substitution, please contact me directly via email and I'll provide information on how to make that change.

Good luck in the contest, and I hope to see you in Orlando. A reminder that Jan. 23 is the postmark deadline for entries. You can access full details, including the amended projects category, here.

Sincerely,
