John Bednarowski of the Marietta Daily Journal narrowly defeated Ed Guzman of The Seattle Times in a runoff election for APSE second vice president. The two had tied in an earlier election.

Said Bednarowski in a Facebook post: “It’s hard to explain how humbled I feel that all you fine folks in the organization think I’m the right guy for the job. Thank you so much, I’m ready to go and I’ll do my best not let you down.”

Bednarowski will join newly elected first vice president Jeff Rosen of The Kansas City Star and newly elected third VP Robert Gagliardi of the Wyoming Tribune Eagle as officers for 2016-17. Current first VP Tommy Deas of The Tuscaloosa News will become president.

All will assume their new roles at the closing meeting of the June 22-25 conference in Charlotte.
