9:15 -9:45 — Ken Halpin is the athletics director at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
Topic: Leading a mid-major athletics program, his department’s future and ongoing situations in the college athletics landscape.
10-10:45 a.m. — Steve Politi is a sports columnist for the Star-Ledger and N.J.com, and frankly, one of the best in the business.
Topic: Developing into a columnist, finding unique story ideas and how media members can define a fact-based voice.
11-noon — John Swofford is the commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference
Topic: This will be an open forum for reporters and students to ask Swofford questions. Topics will vary.
Lunch paired with a conversation about current issues in the media industry
1:15-2 p.m. — Jonas Pope is a sports reporter for the News and Observer in Raleigh; Kyle Serba is the director of sports information at North Carolina Central; and Jeff Mills is a sports reporter with the Greensboro News & Record.
Topic: How can media cover small schools, and what’s the best way to build relationships between athletic departments and media members.
2 p.m. — Jonas Pope covers recruiting for the News and Observer; Frankie Mansfield is the sports department for the Moultrie News in Mount Pleasant, S.C.; Bret McCormick is the sports department for the Rock Hill Herald in S.C.
Topic: How to cover college recruiting in different ways. All have used non-traditional storytelling with serious success.
