For a $25 fee, students gain access to the minds and events that will shape the future of sports journalism. Sponsoring editors are asked to help mentor the students as they prepare to enter the profession.

Today, meet a Boston University senior sponsored by Justin Pelletier.
Meredith Perri
College status: Senior at Boston University in 2013-14
Sponsoring member: Justin Pelletier, Sun Journal (Lewiston, Maine)
Experience: Boston University men’s hockey beat reporter for The Daily Free Press and president of AWSM@Boston University, a student chapter of the Association for Women in Sports Media. Member of the board of directors for Back Bay Publishing Company, Inc. and former sports editor at the Free Press. Interned for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League as an editor and field reporter during the summer of 2013. Also worked for She’s Game Sports as an editor, writer and columnist, SportsNet New York and MetsBlog.com as a digital media intern covering the New York Mets, and the Neighborhood Network News as an associate producer.
How did you become interested in sports journalism? When I was in middle school, my father brought home a copy of the Mets media guide. I proceeded to read the entire book. Every night when my family would sit down to eat dinner or watch the game, I brought up the different things that I had learned from the guide. By the time I was 12, I had decided I wanted to become a beat reporter.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned? Always try to find different, unique ways to present a story, and never shy away from using multimedia.
Dream job? Become a beat reporter covering a professional baseball team.
Hobbies/interests/activities: Playing intramural volleyball and softball, reading short stories and having movie nights with my friends.
