Last summer APSE president Gerry Ahern called on every member of APSE to recruit and sponsor one college student as a member of our organization.
For a $25 fee, students gain access to the minds and events that will shape the future of sports journalism. Ahern also asked sponsoring editors to help help mentor the student as they prepare to enter the profession.

Today, meet a recent San Diego State graduated sponsored by UT San Diego sports editor Todd Adams.
Name: Hunter Hewitt
College status: Graduated from San Diego State University in December 2012 with B.A. in journalism.

Experience: Have written for The Daily Aztec, San Diego State’s student newspaper as well as East County Magazine, GoAztecs.com and the Yahoo!/Rivals network.
How did you become interested in sports journalism? "I have been a sports fanatic my entire life. After playing basketball and football in high school, I went on to play football at the Division I level at San Diego State University, where I also discovered an interest in writing. I knew I wanted to stay involved with sports, and I concluded I should combine my two passions and pursue a career in sports journalism."
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned? "Over the years, I have learned the importance of networking. Building strong relationships with your peers and reaching out to professionals when given the opportunity are extremely important in any field of work."
Dream job? Senior writer for Sports Illustrated.
Hobbies/interests/activities: Playing and watching sports, writing, fitness, cooking, movies, hiking and other outdoor activities.
